Many of our customers have shared amazing stories with us about how they bring in new business every day through the use of “new client offers”.
For example, an alternative therapy health clinic offers an initial consultation for $49. After the initial consultation and x-rays, the doctor determines a suitable series of treatments for the patient. The proposed treatment costs the patient more than $5,000 for the first year. After signing up for the treatment and experiencing the benefits within only a few weeks, the patient refers three more customers through friends and family for an initial consultation with the same doctor. Two of those referrals go on to sign up for a similar series of treatments, each costing over $5,000 per year again. From booking a single “new client offer” at $49, the clinic brings in over $15,000 revenue in the following year.
Similarly, an internet marketing consultant offers a “free website analysis and phone consultation” for all new customers. The consultant gives away more than an hour of her time in the hope that the client sees the value and potential ROI in the service and hopefully proceeds to engage the consultant for some assistance. Sometimes the consultant does not win the gig, but still makes a friend in the process. However, more often than not, the free time spent with the potential client results in new work for the consultant valued at hundreds or even thousands of dollars. All this from booking a single “free introductory session”.
Moral of the story: If you are in any service based business, selling “new client offers” has got to be at the top of your marketing priority list.
What is the most effective way to sell “new client offers”? Some businesses give away paper coupons in their local neighborhood, others buy ads in magazines and newspapers. In a day where everyone is searching for everything on the internet, the most effective method by far is to add a coupon image to your website that says “New Client Offer – Book Online” and link it to an online booking calendar where a new customer can book and pay for an appointment online.
Consumers are impatient these days, when they want something, they want to order it immediately and know that its on its way. If they decide to go on a holiday, they want to be able to just go online in the middle of the night and book their flights. They don’t have the patience anymore to wait until 9 am the next morning when the travel agent call center is open and spend an hour on the phone just to book a flight. If you are in the service industry, take the hint from the travel industry: people prefer to book and pay online, make it easy for them to do that. If you don’t, you will be left behind.
